1. Feature.
NOWHouse from CleverHomes
  Clever Homes unveiled their NOWHouse product recently at SBC Park in San Francisco. We have an interview with Toby Long from Clever Homes as well as some pictures of the display home.
 

2. Recent additions. The following projects have been added since our last newsletter.

  Rocio Romero released a larger version of the LV Home called the LVL Home.
 

SixtyFourty House by Gregory La Vardera and Northern Steel was added to the fabzone.

 

The SIPs-based courtHOUSE by Mark Meyer was recently added to the fabzone.

 

The S4 Elemental Architecture Concept Home by Tekton Architecture can be found in the fabzone. We also have a pamphlet in PDF format available for download.

  HanrahanMeyers' prefab house is in the fabzone
  The Retreat, listed in the fabzone, is a reinvention of the british holiday caravan by Buckley Gray Yeoman. Their web site has a PDF available for download.
  Field House, a pre-cast concrete vacation home by ArtsCorporation, is in the fabzone.
  The hip MetroShed has been added to the fabzone.
  Habitainer is a container-based project in the planning stages in Barcelona Spain.
  Tomahouse Balinese bungalows are now listed in otherfab
  Anasia knock-down bungalows were added to the otherfab page
  Alternative Building's Fiberglass Yurts have been added to the otherfab page.
 
3. Recent updates and announcements. The following projects have been updated since our last newsletter.
  Abode by Modabode was presented as "Steel House" at the Houses of the Future event in Sydney, Australia during October 2004. We have migrated Abode to the fablist.
  Clever Homes' NowHouse has been migrated to the fablist.
 

Studio 804's Modular 1 won an international Wood Design Award. Modular 1 also was awarded Architecture Magazine's House of the Year 2004. These are both fantastic achievements for a great prefab project!

Jennifer & Barry, the first buyers of an LV Home have several new postings in their online diary where they track progress as they build their dwelling.

 

4. Relevant news items.

  • Site::Offsite, a conference on prefab, was held in Austin in late November 2004. The organizers are planning on publishing the papers that were presented.
  • Architectural Record covered the Dallas City Council's "ban on prefab"
  • The Houses of the Future exhibit in Sydney received a range of press exposure. An example from Infolink (Australian architecture, building, design, construction).
  • Kansas City Infozine covered the story of Studio 804's Modular 1 winning a Home of the Year award from Architecture Magazine.
  • NOWHouse received a range of press related to the unveiling at SBC Park in San Francisco. An example from SFGate.
  • Alastair Gordon wrote a piece for the New York Times covering the Hranek House in upstate New York. The story was syndicated in various papers including the San Jose Mercury News last week. These stories are now archived but you might find a cached version by Googling the headline "A modern prefab house fills the bill" (Also fabprefab offered a preview of this house under construction 12 months earlier in December 2003)
  • The St. Louis Post-Dispatch had a story on Rocio Romero's LV Home
  • ICWales, the Welsh national website, featured an article on the opportunity for prefab to lower the cost of housing.
  • Marketplace on Public Radio covered prefab in a segment in mid-December. You can listen to a streaming version here.
  • We've updated our infosource page with a couple more books.
